First of all, yes, I realize this story is YA and one does have to suspend disbelief. With that perspective in mind, I find Emma, in spite of her outstanding GPA, not being the sharpest knife in the drawer.Carter is the character I gravitated toward more. The reason being is that the reader learns more about his childhood leading up to the adolescent history in his high school senior year.Emma is the rebel of sorts who gravitates from wearing clothes that accentuate the aloof artist stereotype. But, then she switches to the more conventional fashion style of her peers. An expression perhaps that she is able to embrace both worlds.Carter's popularity level is strengthened by the rumor mill with girls that he has done little to correct. Once recognized as this persona falls away, he becomes the athlete who gets pushed down the "in-crowd" social ladder at least among his teammates. He does maintain genuine friendship from two friends on the basketball team.Emma is the artist who gives off a tough persona more or less but actually has a very gentle spirit.I honestly liked the book because both Carter and Emma are sweet characters. Carter purposely steps into Emma's artistic world as she does into his athletic world.Don't expect logic. But, if you like teenage angst thrown in with each character slightly taking an interest outside his/her comfort zone--I think the reader would like it..Sex is alluded to but only as a glimpse and not explicitly acted out with excessive description.I honestly find the book's audience to be appropriate for readers from middle school to high school level. The ideal ending does arrive at its HEA.The last chapter is devoted to introducing the main characters in Book 2 of the "Rumor Has It" series.

First off, I read this all in one day, while wrangling two children. I even passed on playing video games with a friend so I could finish it.The story reminded me of all my own high school butterflies and how grueling it was, waiting for someone to message back. The characters are realistic and likeable. I enjoyed seeing their growth. Now, on to book 2!

This is my first book by this author and I liked it. So far it was ok nothing extraordinary but good let see what the next one is about and what I think of this author still.

Just like the movie You've Got Mail. Swap out a small bookstore owner for a not popular high school student, AOL for texting and a book bookstore chain co-owner for a popular jock and volá! Still a fine read for 1.5 generations removed.

Cute funny and sweet. Good read thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely worth the time. I think its 4 stars worthy. ****

Lots of different reviews, one review says just read this book , it is good .So I did, I enjoyed it, it wasn't rocket science but it was fun.

I loved this book! It was a sweet romance about the importance of looking past appearances and reputations to see the true person inside.

This was a book I highly recommend. I loved the relationship that slowly grew between Emma and Carter and how they didn't base it on what the other looks like. This was an eye opening book :)

I bought two children's books on South Africa this month and both were great! I pre-ordered this one got it on its released date, which is always awesome. "Living in...South Africa" is great for teaching early learners about the people and history of South Africa. It's pretty informative, but not so much that it would go over a child's head. It reads more like a teaching tool than a bedtime story, but that's great for families who travel a lot or for parents who just want to teach their children about another country and culture. The other title, which I'd also recommend, is about a little girl named Keesha and her two moms who go on a 7-day South African Adventure. Both of these books would make excellent additions to any library. Recommended!

Wonderful gifts for friends who are South African for their children/grandchildren!

AMAZING! My son and I absolutely enjoyed this book

These books are simply amazing. My daughter is absolutely addicted. We are planning to order EVERY book in this series! :)

This series is amazing. We ordered through Scholastic at school. My 7 yr is totally hooked on to this series. Who knew South Africa has 3 capitals? Now I do, Thanks to reading this book with my son. The best part is I have learnt so many new things by reading this series with him. This series is a great gift option for 7/8 yr olds.

Follow little David around on his typical day in South Africa and learn about his country's history, culture, and favorite past-times.Another great one from Living in... Fantastic intro to the people and culture of South Africa. Highly recommended.

This book is absolutely gorgeous! As a South African living in the US, I really wanted to find a good selection of books relating to South Africa for my 6 year old daughter. This book does not disappoint! A++
