This is a really inspiring book written by a very intelligent man. This is the most interesting and philosophical book I have read about lucid dreams and I have read a lot. He comes from an academic background but doesn't ignore the bigger questions about consciousness and about reality. Love love this book! It has inspired me to start training myself again to lucid dream and I've had 3 in one month. I followed some of the author's suggestions for working with dreams with surprising and delightful results. This is not a beginner's manual of techniques so if you are just getting started start with something with basic instructions first or in conjunction with this book.

Lucid dreaming has been a big part of my life since I was a child. I initially began the process in order to combat chronic nightmares that plagued my sleep. In my late teens, I had a four year period of lucid dreaming that would later serve as the inspiration for my own novels. Over the years I had heard the term "lucid dreams" and "conscious dreams" but most of the material that I found was about people purposefully making themselves lucid to create some type of dream fantasy realm. That is all well and good, but I wanted to understand more about what had happened to me with the four years of post-apocalyptic dreams that I had that I did not ask for.I finally came across Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self. I have not before, nor since found such a great source that actually managed to give me answers to many of the questions that I had. There are, of course, some questions that a book cannot answer and I will need to discover those answers on my own but this book really delves in-depth on the subject of lucid dreaming and the multiple layers and experiences one can have when in this state. My eyes were opened to a level that they had never been opened before as to what is possible.I also practice meditation, I have for a few years. Combining the two techniques is highly beneficial and really allows one to explore the depths of the sub-conscious that we are normally "locked" away from (I use that loosely, the reality is, we lock ourselves away from our true selves). The author is not only an experienced lucid dreamer, he has conducted numerous experiments with lucid dreaming to really test the depths of his own ability as well as the ability of others to maximize this phenomenon. He does an excellent job chronicling these dreams throughout the book with explanations as well as examples of others who have had similar experiences.Lucid dreaming, once considered a "fringe science" has been accepted as a scientific reality but the depths have yet to be fully probed. If you have any interest in lucid dreaming, whether you have experienced it yourself, are curious about it, or just want to, this book is a must-have. I was well worth every penny I paid.

I have had an ongoing interest in lucid dreaming for over 20 years dating back to when I first discovered the work of Stephen Laberge, and this book has re-inspired me to dive back in head first. I had a fertile period of very vivid and strange dreams that got me to pull out my old dream journals and start thinking about lucid dreaming again, and then I started to search the internet for new books and I'm so glad I found this one. I noticed that every single review is 5-stars, and after reading them I couldn't wait to get my hands on this. What I really like is how Waggoner approaches this on a deeper level - beyond the basics of controlling your dream content to fly or have adventures just for the sake of entertainment. To me - that was always a good enough reason to learn lucidity, to escape and push the boundaries just a little bit. Then, after reading his experiences of going deeper and unlocking a 3rd consciousness - I stopped and realized there was so much more to achieve. Lucid dreaming is an art form and requires a lot of discipline, but if you have come this far and found this book - then don't even hesitate....just buy it, read it and push your mind to new heights!

I couldn't put this one down. Basically you should know a Lucid Dream is being aware that you are dreaming and are conscious enough to have the ability to direct the dream. I could relate to the first 5 or 6 chapters and then he started getting real deep. Too deep for some I suspect, but I found it quite intriguing. I like to keep notes as I read and I ended up with several of pages of handwriting. His techniques for becoming conscious while dreaming are simple and work. As he explains, the typical person might only have a few opportunities a month to practice, but as you get better over time you can experience more and more. He says in his prime he averaged one per night. It really makes you consider your spirit, soul, and much more. Hope you like it too.

This was a valuable help to me to grasp what lucid dreaming is about. I learned a great deal about what a profound effect being in a physical body has on our thinking.For example, some new to lucid dreaming find it difficult to go anywhere in their dream because they can't make their legs work. They find out, if they do, that legs work in the physical world but not in a dream. If you want to go somewhere in a dream, all you need to do is to want it, to wish it, or to will it. Actually, just seeing and thinking about the place you want to be is good enough.There is a lot in this book about meeting others and conversing with them in dreams. Now, there is a thought.

I read other Lucid Dreaming books. This book covers all the standard points. But this book also concludes, after a lifetime of observing Lucid Dreaming, that an intelligence with a growth agenda assembles the details of the dreams. Lucid Dreams obviously carry lifelike detail and obviously serve the high purpose of growth. Robert Waggoner does a great job discussing this while yet allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions about what this means. A home run!

This book is a fascinating read on Lucid Dreaming. If you are a fan of Seth books (by Jane Roberts), you are sure in for a treat.Notice, this is not a book on how to induce lucid dreaming. You will be disappointed if you hope to find such techniques here. The author has workshops on the how-tos.

This is the first book of Archbishop Ramsey's that I have read and I enjoyed it very much. It was copyrighted in 1982, which makes it just about 30 years old. I find it interesting to read about subjects of interest as perceived in an early generation. It seems to either promote questions or relieve anxiety over current positions. I found Ramsey's thoughts provokingly "normal" to my way of thinking. I have recommended this book to several people that I know have a strong interest in prayer. It will be loaned but not given away.
