I enjoyed this makeover book, which is specifically targeted at women 45+ (I am 49 as I write this), and I think the advice given is quite good. The attendant actual makeovers shown throughout are helpful, as are the tips & explanations of why certain styles or colors just aren't a good idea on most women this book is targeted to reach. I think a lot of us are guilty of sticking with styles that flattered us decades ago, and I also believe a lot of us are unwilling to put the time and effort into really making ourselves look good, at least until we see what can happen when we do (as is shown quite well in this book). I think the only thing I couldn't agree with in the whole book had to do with nail polish - the author suggests that women over 45 should stick to natural-looking nails (or french manicures), and while I would agree that black nail polish, and maybe neon colors, might look odd on an older woman (unless she was somewhat outrageous in her style already), I think most colors look beautiful no matter your age. It's the effort of getting or doing the manicures/pedicures that is important - keeping your nails groomed and nice-looking. This book was published in 2008, which was ten years ago as I write this, so maybe the wider range of lovely colors available now did not exist then. Otherwise, I pretty much agreed with everything the Makeover Guy had to say.

Please don't listen to any of the negative feedback. This book is so perfect. I purchase it for each of my gfs turning 50. We all make these mistakes and we don't know how to fix them until Christopher shows us how, easily. Growing older and looking good has different challenges than when we were younger. How many women over 50 do you see with the same old man haircut, the same fanny pack, and the same old white sneakers? Washed out and frumpy with dull hair? Listen to this man, he knows what he's talking about even if we don't always want to hear what he has to say. This is my favorite book on aging gracefully.

This book should be required reading for every woman over 30. The author presents a clear plan for defining one’s style and making the best choices in bringing that plan to fruition. He explains and demonstrates that appropriate does not equal dowdy, and that aging gracefully and stylishly is doable. There is a lot of psychological explanation for making the fashion choices one makes as well as concrete ways to incorporate those choices in ways that enhance instead of embarrass. If you want to try before you buy: look at his makeovers on YouTube. This guy knows his stuff.

I just love The Makeover Guy and have seen many videos he has on YouTube. I was happy to find his book. Started reading it the day I got it. First tip that saved me $$ - and it covered the cost of the book - was that it was not necessary to keep perming my hair and to try other things instead. I enjoy the witty writing style, as if he is really working a makeover on me that minute. The Before/After pics of various women were stunning, with great wardrobe & styling tips/techniques. Wonderful book!

This is a very well written book. Easy to follow tips, a little inside information on Christopher’s family his mother and his life. I’m going to keep this book and refer back to it many times. We should change our look every so many years. I think a lot of us don’t we get comfortable with the style that we like and we keep it for a long time. Christopher tells us that we need to change things up sometimes. Get this book I think you’ll learn a lot.

As a blogger and influencer I’m always on the lookout for items and tips that I can share-either on my YouTube channel, my Instagram feed or my blog, atypical60. I became addicted to Christopher Hopkins The Makeup Guy on YouTube-his makeovers are astounding. And so, I decided to purchase his book.My thoughts? He had some stellar advice that stems from common sense. The book, although just a tad dated, is a fun read-lots of makeovers! And it’s about time that the beauty and fashion needs for the mature woman are addressed! The book isn’t without fault though. He’s a bit scissor happy in cutting the hair short. He also feels women over a certain age shouldn’t wear shimmer eye shadows—which I disagree on. A hint of shimmer can brighten the eyes!Trust me though, got the woman over 50 or older who wants to look better and isn’t a big makeup person should give this book a try!

This book has quite a lot of sage advice. I really love that Christopher wants to help us older women along in trying to find the best look for ourselves. While I think that he favors certain looks and certain hairstyles, he's sensitive to individual womens reasons for wanting to stay status quo in some areasI grew my long hair out gray, kept it that way for a year and honestly I hated it. I felt like it looked like I gave up. I was salt and pepper and my natural hair color is dark. I really DO look better with a lighter, warmer hair color. As you read through this book there are some things you probably already know, but the biggest takeaway from reading through it is that I AM WORTH THE EFFORT and I can achieve almost whatever I choose to as I age. As Christopher says, its about self-respect.While much of this is timeless advice, I hope that he updates this book sometime in the near future. I noticed in reading certain things are skimmed over or omitted like selecting and using bronzer (which he recommends).Love you Christopher and all that you do for us older women!!
